Occupational Health & Safety Training Program

Program Objectives

  • Provide participants with in-depth understanding of health and safety risks specific to construction sites.
  • Teach how to identify, assess, and control construction-specific hazards (e.g., falls, scaffolding, excavation, heavy equipment).
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation and safety standards (national/ international).
  • Build capacity for safety management on-site, including safety planning, audits, and emergency preparedness.
  • Promote  a culture of safety through worker participation,

1. Target Audience

  • Construction site workers (laborers, machine operators)
  • Foremen, supervisors, site managers, and project engineers
  • Safety Officers / OHS professionals working in construction
  • Contractors, subcontractors, and design/project management teams.
  • Health and safety coordinators who oversee construction site operations.

2. Delivery Methods

  • In‑person training (classroom + site-based) for practical skill development.
  • Online / e-learning modules for theory, legislation, and risk management.
  • Workshops and hands-on exercises, such as risk assessment workshops.
  • Toolbox talks / micro-sessions on site, for regular reinforcement of safety      practices.

3. Key Modules / Content Areas

Here are the core topics that the program should cover:

Introduction & Regulatory Framework

- Construction safety foundations, key laws, regulations,   and standards.

Risk Assessment & Hazard Identification

- Identifying construction hazards (fall, excavation,   scaffolding), conducting risk assessments, job hazard analysis (JHA).

Control Measures

- Implementing the hierarchy of controls (engineering,   administrative, PPE), safety planning.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

- Types of PPE for construction, correct usage, maintenance.

Construction Site Operations

- Safety for heavy machinery, scaffolding, working at   heights, excavation, demolition.

Occupational Hygiene & Health Risks

- Exposure to dust/chemicals, noise, ergonomic risks, health   surveillance.

Emergency Preparedness & Response

- First aid, fire safety, evacuation, rescue, emergency   planning.

Incident Reporting & Investigation

- How to report near-misses, investigate accidents, find   root causes.

Safety Management & Audits

- Developing safety programs, conducting inspections,   audits, continuous improvement.

Safety Culture & Communication

- Toolbox talks, safety leadership, worker involvement,   training culture.

Duration & Frequency

Why This Scope Is Important for Construction

Evaluation & Certification

  • Customized  training: (e.g.,  “Construction Safety and Health / COSH”) over 5 days.
  • Refresher training: Periodic refreshers based on incidents, regulatory changes, or site-specific needs.
  • Orientation training: One-day site safety orientation for all workers before      starting on the construction site.

Evaluation & Certification

Why This Scope Is Important for Construction

Evaluation & Certification

  • Pre‑ and post-training assessments to measure knowledge and retention.
  • Practical assessments / demonstrations (e.g., PPE use, risk assessment, JHA).
  • Training records and documentation to support compliance and audits.

Why This Scope Is Important for Construction

  • Construction sites are high-risk environments — tailored training ensures that the specific hazards are addressed.
  • Helps reduce  accidents and injuries, improving both safety performance and project      productivity.
  • Promotes legal compliance and helps avoid fines or shutdowns.
  • Builds a proactive safety culture, where workers are more engaged and      aware of risks.
  • Supports sustainable safety practices via continuous improvement rather than  a one-off training.
